The Campaign

Stand4Uyghurs (S4U) is a grassroots coalition born from the heart of the British Muslim community, standing for justice and solidarity with our Uyghur brothers and sisters in Chinese-occupied East Turkestan. Our goal is clear: to awaken the Muslim Ummah to the reality of their suffering and inspire collective action that makes a difference.

Since our launch in 2021, we’ve united over 100 organisations across the UK and beyond, including CAGE, Islam21c, Muslim Association of Britain, MEND, and 5Pillars, all committed to amplifying the Uyghur voice. Together, we’ve worked together with Uyghur diaspora groups to ensure their vision and struggle for freedom remain at the core of our efforts.

From organising more than 12 powerful demonstrations worldwide to being featured in leading media outlets such as TRT, Middle East Eye, and Middle East Monitor, our message has reached the masses.

After a short pause, S4U is back and stronger than ever in 2025! With a renewed team, clear goals, and unwavering determination, we’re ready to take the fight for Uyghur justice to the next level.

Stand with Uyghurs. Take action. Be the voice they’ve been denied.

Goals

The Story

The Uyghurs are a Turkic ethnic group indigenous to East Turkestan, a land currently under Chinese occupation and colonially referred to as ‘Xinjiang’. For centuries, Uyghurs have nurtured a rich civilisation rooted in Islam and Central Asian culture, with an Islamic history in East Turkestan dating back to the 8th century. The region is abundant in natural resources, minerals, and breath-taking landscapes, making it both culturally and strategically significant.

For generations, the Uyghur people defended their homeland and preserved their identity. However, in 1949, East Turkestan was occupied by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and renamed the ‘Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region’ (XUAR). Since then, the Chinese state has imposed systematic policies of oppression, aimed at erasing Uyghur religion, identity, and culture, amounting to what many experts recognise as ethnic cleansing and genocide.

The Crises

Over two million Uyghur and other Turkic Muslim have been sent to concentration camps where they are tortured into denouncing their Islamic faith and Uyghur identity.

“Break their lineage, break their roots, break their connections, and break their origins”

This is what Chinese religious affairs official Maisumujiang Maimuer said in 2017. This wasn’t just a slogan; it became a systematic plan rolled out at every level of government. These measures touch every part of Uyghur life. They include forced abortions and sterilisation, mass forced labour transfers, separating children from their families into state-run boarding schools and orphanages, sending Han Chinese people to live in Uyghur homes, destroying mosques, and locking huge numbers of Uyghurs in detention camps.
