The campaign calls on the community to abandon fast fashion giants Temu and Shein who profit from exploitation and forced Uyghur labour in occupied East Turkestan.

We aim to expose the true cost of cheap labour and encourage conscious consumerism, one that is rooted in Islamic principles of justice, sustainability and rejecting all forms of oppression.

WHY SHIEN & TEMU?

Exploitation is not a bargain.

Who are the Uyghurs?
chevron_right

The Uyghurs are a Turkic ethnic group indigenous to East Turkestan, who have been under Chinese occupation since 1949. After the occupation, China renamed the region ‘Xinjiang’. For centuries, Uyghurs have nurtured a rich civilisation rooted in Islam and Central Asian culture, with an Islamic history dating back to the 8th century. The region is abundant in natural resources, minerals, and breath-taking landscapes, making it both culturally and strategically significant.

Why is China oppressing Uyghurs?
chevron_right

Suppress their Islamic Identity:
China seeks to erase Uyghur Islam because it challenges communist ideology and fuels Uyghur identity, resistance, and aspirations for freedom.

East Turkestan’s natural resources:
East Turkestan’s vast reserves of oil, gas, coal, and rare minerals are crucial to sustaining China’s economic and industrial growth.

East Turkestan’s critical geographical location:
East Turkestan is strategically vital as China’s gateway to global markets and a central corridor for the Belt and Road Initiative.

Is the genocide US propaganda?
chevron_right

No—the genocide of Uyghur Muslims is not US propaganda; it is a documented reality. The US and China both exploit human rights narratives to advance their global power while simultaneously committing or enabling atrocities against Muslims globally. The Muslim community must look beyond the distraction of East–West rivalries and consistently stand for justice.

Is China addressing ‘terror threats’ from Uyghurs?
chevron_right

No—China is not addressing genuine “terror threats”; it has exploited the post-9/11 “War on Terror” narrative to falsely label Uyghur demands for self-determination as extremism, using this pretext to justify mass detention, forced assimilation, religious persecution, and other genocidal policies against an entire people.
